On Friday 19th June the Ceremony of the Ancient Charges was held at Castle Gate Masonic Hall, York. This is a very important occasion in the MOA calendar when the giving of the Charges to the Masons in 926 AD is celebrated and enacted. The Most Worshipful Grand Master was present, along with many distinguished guests and several Provincial Grand Masters, including our own, took part in the ceremony.
A very important guest was King Athelstan himself, in the form of the copy of the Grotesque that is to be installed at York Minster. The grotesque, to be known as the Travelling Grotesque, will shortly be travelling around the Province of Lindsey to encourage visiting between Courts. Starting from York, it will travel to each Court in the Province until it returns to York next year for the Charges Ceremony. It has made its first appearance and will continue to be part of the Charges Ceremony henceforth.
